Rustic Canyon Trail:
Three Poems

(summer 2000)

These mountains
pour me out
       into the sunset...

Like a rose-colored quilt,
sunset spills down
     upon this mountain fastness...

Brisk mountain walls
       unfold into the sunset.

Approaching Tapia Subunit,
Malibu Creek State Park

(summer 2000)

Wind blows.

The dappled shade of trees flirts with the asphalt

And my heart has lost its way.

Shall we rest
amongst these whispering bells of grass?

At Whitney Portal
(October 2000)

Heartís rest . . .

Listen to the high far keening of the stars!

In Topanga Canyon
(Winter 2002)

In January
white ceanothus clouds
powder the mountains
with soft promise.
